Frankfurt Main Hauptbahnhof, is the Hauptbahnhof for Frankfurt am Main and, along with Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, is one of the largest terminal stations in Europe. Regarding passenger volume alone, it is the second largest station outside Japan.

Frankfurt is a major transportation hub, the site of both Europe’s second-largest airport and one of its busiest train stations.

Frankfurt's historic center is Romerberg, a square just two blocks north of the center. The old town's walls were torn down, but a green belt of parks loops around the old city in their place. There are still several guardhouses standing as landmarks.

Frankfurt lies in the heart of central Germany and so, it is the national transportation hub. It has excellent connectivity between railways, airlines and highways. Reaching and leaving Frankfurt is easy.

The best times for Frankfurt are late spring to early autumn. The summers tend to be sunny and warm around 25 degrees celsius. Be prepared, however, for very hot summer days around 35 degrees as well as for light rain. The winters can be cold and rainy, but there is hardly any snow inside Frankfurt itself.

Frankfurt has three major train stations, the main station (Hauptbahnhof), the South Station (Südbahnhof) and the Airport (Flughafen Fernbahnhof). Some inter-city trains that stop at the airport will also stop at the Hauptbahnhof, but not always. The Frankfurt Main Station is one of the biggest and busiest train stations in Europe. Frankfurt's Stations have connections to most German cities and some international destinations, via InterCity and high-speed InterCity Express trains. You should have no problem getting a connection to any train destination from Frankfurt.

Frankfurt train stations are very large, and can be confusing places for the newcomer. Allow yourself plenty of extra time to locate the boarding area of your train. There is a large departures signboard above the main exit/entrance with destination and platform information. Information is also available from the railway travel office in the station.

5 and 10 day rail travel cards are available for purchase at the main ticket agent in Frankfurt. This will allow you to travel around Germany using all train services, to include Intercity services.

The best way to travel around Frankfurt is by the subway system (U-Bahn), tram or bus. The metro stations are signed with a white capital "U" on a blue background. For connections to the suburbs take the S-Bahn. You can get individual, group, day and week tickets. The S-Bahn, signed with a white "S" on green background, will take you to the suburbs or the airport.
