Can you please tell me the opening hour times when I can purchase advance train tickets at Waverley Train Station?

We will be in the Edinburgh area for 10 days and as we do not drive we are considering using the train. We want to visit the castles in the surrounding area that were associated with Mary, Queen of Scots. We will be using Linlithgow as our home base and will take the train from there. Could you advise us regarding the best way to buy our tickets? Should we consider a Pass or Pay daily? We would really like to have some train schedules in advance of our arrival so that we can use them in planning our outings. Knowing how long it will take to get to our destinations and where we should disembark for the castles we have chosen for a particular day. If you could help us with this we would be most appreciative.

You posed a very interesting question and the answer depends on how many times you plan to use the train and buses. Distances/locations also carry different rates so those have to be taken into account as well when considering to purchase a Pass vs to Pay Daily. Another good tool for planning Public Transportation (Trains, Buses and Fairies) is Google Maps. If you input your start destination and once located on the map click Get Directions.
